Music in Motion

In high school, everyone has their cliques, but few have the talent and dedication that marching band kids have. Embodying a unique blend of discipline, talent, and teamwork, these students are typically among the most intelligent and hardworking in any school district. Rigorous practice schedules and heaviness of the usual coarse load teach marching band students important skills such as time management, responsibility, and perseverance. And, much like how marching bands require posture and balance, they learn perhaps one of the most important skills of all: how to balance all their school activities with their social activities. Indeed, marching band students and their work ethic is truly admirable, and in conjunction with being able to play large instruments in motion is even more impressive.

However, beyond the physical and mental merits marching band offers, it is primarily a place where anyone can belong. We all know high school can be difficult for some, but marching band, similar to sports teams or other clubs, offers a space that provides a supportive, close-knit environment where students from any background can come and create. The finished products are truly wonders to behold, and many do not recognize the difficulty of being on the same timing and pitch as those around you. It really is a different form of difficulty, and that makes it even more incredible. The synchronization required is the culmination of all the hard work done by teachers, staff, and students alike, truly making every performance a community product, and something the entire school can be proud of.

Despite the diverse backgrounds of the students, they are all now a part of the same organization, and should look the part. For this reason, Lewisville Independent School District in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas is seeking bids to provide approximately 400-500 marching band uniforms for the Flower Mound High School Band Program. This high school band is particularly skilled, placing fourth in the UIL State Marching Contest in 2023. Musically gifted youth can sometimes be overlooked in place of athletes, but that should not mean they should be ignored. Giving these students the tools to represent their school in such an amazing way should be encouraged, and anyone willing to help accomplish this task should be applauded. Donning these uniforms shows the cohesion and togetherness of the marching band and presents a united front, matching the synchronization of each step and the harmonizing of each note played.
